The Diocese of Lincoln has taken meaningful steps to build a safer, more inclusive working environment by adopting a suite of essential online training courses from Me Learning. The training covers Preventing Sexual Harassment, GDPR, Unconscious Bias, Equality & Diversity, and Fire Safety Awareness.

This timely move follows the introduction of the Worker Protection Act, which places greater responsibility on employers to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace. “The change in legislation really prompted us to take a step back and ask if we are doing everything we can to ensure a safe, respectful, and well-informed environment for our staff,” said Emma Camm, HR and Safeguarding Lead at the Diocese.

Central to the Diocese’s efforts is the Preventing Sexual Harassment training, which reinforces its commitment to a workplace culture where everyone feels safe, valued, and heard. The training was introduced alongside updated policies and a renewed commitment to ongoing learning. Senior staff and line managers completed the training first. This set a clear tone from the top and reinforced strong leadership accountability following a collaborative internal review.

The course will be delivered on a rolling refresher basis, ensuring staff remain aware of evolving expectations and feel equipped to respond with confidence. The Diocese sees this not just as training, but as a critical step in embedding respect and awareness into the daily culture of the diocese and the community they serve.

The Diocese has also developed a new sexual harassment policy to accompany the training, ensuring a consistent and accountable approach across teams. Together, these efforts ensure that all staff, particularly those in leadership are not only part of the conversation but are actively leading the change. The broader programme includes topics such as Unconscious Bias and Equality & Diversity, reflecting the Diocese’s commitment as a Church of England employer to creating an environment where everyone feels respected, valued, and supported at every level.

This approach reflects a growing momentum across the Church of England where dioceses are taking meaningful, practical steps to create environments rooted in trust and care.

Why Me Learning?

The Diocese selected Me Learning for both the quality of its content and the hands-on support offered by the team.

Emma, HR/H&S Advisor at the Diocese said:

“The training was really easy to get up and running, and we were able to roll it out quickly. The Me Learning team were always on hand and really helpful throughout. The content is clear and engaging, and their support made the whole process feel smooth and straightforward.

We’re confident this training will make a real difference across the diocese, giving staff the knowledge they need and helping us build a safer, more informed culture especially around the topic of preventing harassment.”

Extending Impact Beyond the Staff

The Diocese is also broadening the reach of this training, offering it to affiliated bodies such as the Diocesan Board of Education and parish councils with employed staff. This centralised support helps smaller teams access high-quality, legally aligned training they might otherwise struggle to deliver.
